Position Description:

Transatlantic Reinsurance Company, a leading international reinsurance organization, is currently seeking a Head of Catastrophe Management for its New York Home Office.

This position is responsible for the management and coordination of TRC's global modeling initiative and corresponding operating budget. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer and situated in New York the role will involve oversight of TRC's modeling activities in 11 offices throughout the world via a team of dedicated modelers situated regionally. While functioning as part of our Risk Management team the role will involve substantial interaction and resource sharing with Underwriting, Actuarial, Systems and other departments within the organization on an ad hoc basis. Heavily weighted towards Property the role also includes responsibility for the modeling of other lines such as Marine, Offshore Energy, Workers Compensation, Terrorism, A&H etc.

The successful candidate will initially be responsible for implementing a program structured so as to improve existing human, hardware and software infrastructures. Initial phases will include working closely with IT on design and development of a SQL tool which will automate combining various exposure curves from well known vendor models including subsequent report design. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to assess existing technical capabilities of the team before implementing suitable training programs where required. The individual will also be responsible for building out a senior management team consisting of two direct reports situated in London and New York in addition to developing bench strength as and where required.

Ultimate responsibility will include aggregating global corporate exposures as well as providing underwriters and management with timely information which will allow them to facilitate corporate optimization and economic capital goals. Additional responsibilities will also include keeping TRC at the forefront of modeling technology at all times. As such, being able to interpret and communicate the impact of model changes etc to various constituents is a vital part of this job.

Position Requirements:

Intimate working knowledge of at least two of the three main catastrophe models will be an advantage. Prior experience of managing from afar would also be preferable but is not critical to the selection process. Excellent team building, relationship and communication skills are however critical.
